PDFKing respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit PDFKing or use our PDF tools, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our services, you agree to these practices. This page is a concise privacy policy guide and a quick privacy policy checklist to help you understand our approach to user data protection. About PDFKing

PDFKing offers a free suite of browser-based tools to merge, split, compress, protect, unlock, rotate, and convert PDF documents. We collect as little personal data as possible and are transparent about what we do collect.

What Information Do We Collect?

We collect only what is necessary to run the website. Personal data falls into two groups.

Information You Provide

Details you actively share, such as your email address when you contact support, the content of your message, or feedback submitted through a form. We ask only for what we genuinely need.

Information Collected Automatically

Technical data your browser sends when you visit: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages visited, and general geographic region. This helps us diagnose issues and understand aggregate usage.

Device Permissions in the Mobile App

The PDFKing app for Android and iOS asks for camera access for one feature only: Scan to PDF, which photographs a paper document and turns the pages into a PDF. The app requests it at the moment you open the scanner rather than when the app starts, and the camera is used solely to capture the pages you are scanning. We do not use it for any other purpose, and no other tool in the app touches it — tools that work on photos already on your phone go through the system picker instead.

You can refuse camera access, and you can withdraw it later in your device settings. Either way only Scan to PDF becomes unavailable; every other tool continues to work. On Android the camera is declared as an optional device feature, so the app still installs and runs on a device that has no camera at all.

We do not require account creation to use our PDF tools, and we do not sell your personal information.

How Do We Use Your Information?

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve our PDF tools.
  • Respond to your questions, comments, and support requests.
  • Analyze usage trends to enhance performance and user experience.
  • Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, spam, or unauthorized access.
  • Meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

Our legal bases include your consent, our legitimate interest in a secure website, and compliance with laws such as the GDPR and CCPA.

How Do We Handle Your Files?

Files you process through any PDFKing tool are used only to deliver the output you requested — a merged, compressed, or converted PDF. We do not view, read, index, share, or analyze the contents of your documents, and your files are never used to train machine learning or AI models. You retain full ownership of every document.

Scan to PDF in the Mobile App

Scan to PDF, available in the Android and iOS app, uses your device camera to capture the pages of a physical document. You can scan several pages in one session, and before the PDF is created you can reorder pages, delete a page, rescan one, add more, and rotate or crop any individual page.

All of that happens on your device. The capture itself is handled by your platform's own document scanner — the scanner built into Google Play services on Android, VisionKit on iOS, or the app's own camera capture where neither is available — which finds the edges of the page and corrects its perspective on the device. The rotation and crop you apply, and the assembly of the pages into the finished PDF, are performed by the app on the handset. Scanned pages and the PDF made from them are not uploaded to PDFKing, and the app does not run text recognition over them.

While you are scanning, the platform scanner writes each captured page into a temporary cache folder. The app reads those pages and then deletes the temporary files immediately, before the review screen opens, and it does so on every exit — including when you cancel the scan or it fails. The pages you are reviewing are held in the app's memory while that document is open and are released when you finish, start another scan, or leave the tool. The finished PDF is saved to the Downloads/PDFKing folder on your own device, where it stays until you move or delete it; we keep no copy of it.

As with every tool in the app, a short record of the operation is sent to our servers so that runs are logged and free daily usage can be accounted for. For a scan that record contains the number of pages, the names the app generated for them (Scan_1.jpg, Scan_2.jpg and so on), their sizes in bytes, and the fact that the pages came from the camera. It never contains the scanned images or the PDF.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use a small number of cookies to keep the site functional and understand aggregate visitor behavior through privacy-respecting analytics. These fall into three groups: essential cookies (required to run the site), preference cookies (remember settings such as language), and analytics cookies (measure aggregate usage). You can block non-essential cookies through your browser or our cookie banner without losing access to any tool.

Which Third-Party Services Do We Use?

We rely on trusted providers for hosting, content delivery, and analytics. They process technical data such as IP addresses strictly on our behalf and cannot use it for their own advertising. Our site may link to external resources; once you leave pdfking.app, this Privacy Policy no longer applies.

How Long Do We Keep Your Data?

We retain personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill its purpose or meet legal obligations. Support emails are typically kept for up to 24 months. Anonymized aggregate analytics data may be retained longer, as it no longer identifies you.

International Data Transfers

Because our tools are used worldwide, information may be processed outside your country of residence. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we use safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission to ensure your data receives an equivalent level of protection.

How Do We Protect Your Data?

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or alteration. These include encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections, access controls, regular security reviews, and staff confidentiality obligations. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep risks low.
